Our anti-ALEC network passed this article along to me:

http://bismarcktribune.com/...

A social event will be held next week in Bismarck for lawmakers to meet and raise money for a legislative organization that pushes for free-market legislation.

MDU Resources will be hosting a beer and wine tasting for lawmakers Wednesday at its corporate campus in Bismarck. The event is to promote and raise money for the American Legislative Exchange Council.

North Dakota lawmakers will pay $250 each to attend.  I wonder how much corporate lobbyists and executives will pay to influence the members of the North Dakota Legislature to enact laws that favor those corporate interests over those of the people who elected them to office.
MDU Resources Director of Government Affairs Geoff Simon said the event is intended to raise money for future ALEC events and build support for the organization. Simon is one of ALEC’s private sector co-chairmen for North Dakota.

The group’s public sector co-chairmen for North Dakota are Republican Reps. Al Carlson and Bette Grande of Fargo.

If there are any North Dakota Kossacks in the Bismark area next week, this would be a nice event to demonstrate to let your fellow citizens know that ALEC runs your legislature, and that the legislature, which YOU pay and elect, does the bidding of ALEC at your expense.

It's time to find out who your ALEC Representatives and Senators are and run them out of office at the next election.  They do not represent you.  They represent MDU Resources and other corporate interests.

You have 5 days to get organized.  ALEC has a 40 year, less 5 day head start on you.  You can win by shining the light on their nefarious activities.

You can look up some of their members here:

Here is a better list, h/t to MNDem999.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

against.  These legislators are not working for the voters, they are working for ALEC and its corporate enablers.

Legislative Plagiarism shall not stand.  Demand that all ALEC "model legislation" be disclosed as to what its source is, and what corporate interests are represented on the Task Force that wrote and had corporate veto power over whether the Public Sector Board could even vote on whether to give the bill ALEC "Model Legislation" status.

That's right, corporate interests have veto power over state legislators from all fifty states.

to tell ALEC legislators - that the USA is not OK with ALEC.

ALEC legislators hide their membership in ALEC - because they know what they are doing is wrong.  If ALEC legislators were proud of being a member - they would list it in their bios.

Every time there is an ALEC event - people have to be there to say NO!  and to see who attends  and to question the people who are attending.

The bullsh*t that ALEC feeds the press about free markets and limited government only misleads the public.  The people need to be at every event to let ALEC and the public know that ALEC is not the innocuous org it claims to be.

ALEC, the nonprofit corporation,  is currently claiming that ITS  first amendment right to free speech and assembly is being threatened.  The American people have to stand up against ALEC - every time - and tell ALEC they are not OK with ALEC threatening the people's right to government of, by and for the people.

Remove these Koch-loving ALEC slimeballs out of office.

      Another protest opportunity
December 4 - 6 Washington DC - ALEC meeting that indoctrinates legislators voted in next Tuesday and the 40th Anniversary Grand Ball/Gala.

will be speaking at the ALEC event in Texas in December.

Many questioned Governor Pence's relationship with ALEC - and by his attending and speaking, I think that question has now been answered.

As ALEC attempts to raise funding to keep them in business, protesters (no matter how many or few) should show up and demonstrate to keep the community informed about this dangerous "charity" - and why they're dangerous.

take place immediately after ALEC provided another all expense paid "tour" or the tar sands project (xl pipeline) facilities in Alberta?

Could be one or more of the state lawmakers who were given that tour are ND legislators...

possible with ALEC.  MDU is in the energy business.  Here is a link to their site:

Here is a link to their 2012 Annual Report (pdf):

      http://www.mdu.com/...

From their annual report, they do pipelines and Oil & Gas exploration, so there may be something to your speculation.  I have no means to check it out, however.

MDU Resources Group intends to build a new oil refinery near Dickinson in southwestern North Dakota

The refinery will produce naphtha (NAP’-thah) along with diesel fuel. Naphtha is added to thick Canadian “tar sands” oil. It thins the oil to allow it to be shipped through a pipeline.

        and you have this
BISMARCK, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven was joined today by TransCanada’s President (Energy and Oil Pipelines) Alex Pourbaix and MDU Resources President and CEO Terry Hildestad to underscore the importance of the Keystone XL Pipeline.
Can't connect Hoeven to ALEC though.
        •  The headline from the RW Sayanythingblog (0+ / 0-)

should have read Keystone XL Pipeline will cause permanent layoff of 500 North Dakota truck drivers.

          That's the link headlined Bismarck, N.D. - Senator John Hoeven . . . .

That's just another way to spin the story, isn't it?

thanks for reading, and if you are in ND, please consider demonstrating against ALEC, they do not represent you, and neither do state legislators that are their members.

Find out who they are, and exercise the ultimate political power, vote them out.  Good luck.

... ALEC is now having to go farther and father away from where they are known. But Salt Lake City didn't work, Chicago was just a bad idea on their part (huge demo there) and wouldn't it be just grand is ND was hostile territory for them as well.

My bet is they will be asking oil billionaires for money way out there, who else can make it?

Uh... dumb question, ALEC corporations are fat with profits.
